Rauenthal
[ROW-uhn-tahl]

A small wine-producing village situated in the foothills of the Taunas Mountains, set back from the Rhine River in Germany's RHEINGAU region. Rauenthal produces highly regarded wines that are known for their spiciness, excellent ACIDITY, and age-worthiness. Steinmächer is the GROSSLAGE that covers Rauenthal's vineyards, but the better wines are labeled with the names of the individual EINZELLAGEN—Baiken, Gehrn, Nonnenberg, Rothenberg, and Wulfen.
