Pla del Bages DO

New, small DO that's located around the town of Manresa about 45 miles northwest of the city of Barcelona in northeast Spain. Many vineyards in the area grow grapes for the SPARKLING WINES of the CAVA DO. As the quality of STILL WINES improved, the DO status was given, encouraging others to join in producing quality still wines. The primary white VARIETIES are MACABEO, PARELLADA, CHARDONNAY, and Picapoll; the reds are TEMPRANILLO, Garnacha (GRENACHE), MERLOT, and CABERNET SAUVIGNON.
