Pommard AC
[paw-MAHR]

The vineyards of this APPELLATION encircle the village of Pommard, which sits between BEAUNE and VOLNEY in the CÔTE DE BEAUNE area of France's BURGUNDY region. The fact that the wines are quite well known is somewhat the result of the pronounce ability of its name. In fact, it's well known enough for unscrupulous producers to pass non-area wines off as Pommard. Even though this deceitful practice is seemingly over, it's still best to know the producer for any wines bearing "Pommard AC" on the label. Although this AC has no GRAND CRU vineyards, there are two excellent PREMIER CRU vineyards that many feel are of grand cru caliber—Les Epenots (also spelled Epeneaux) and Les Rugiens. The better wines from this appellation can be ROBUST and full-bodied (see BODY), with perfumed BOUQUETS.
