Prädikatswein
[preh-dih-KAHTS-vine]

The highest general quality category for wine in Austria, similar to the German QUALITÄTSWEIN MIT PRÄDIKAT. Austria differs from Germany in that Kabinett is not included in this highest category. Prädikatswein includes the following subcategories, from lowest to highest quality—SPÄTLESE, AUSLESE, STROHWEIN, EISWEIN, BEERENAUSLESE, AUSBRUCH, and TROCKENBEERENAUSLESE. Below Prädikatswein are the wine quality levels of QUALITÄTSWEIN (with its subcategory of KABINETT), below which is TAFELWEIN (with its subcategory of LANDWEIN).
