monopole
[maw-naw-PAWL]

French for "monopoly," this word on a French wine label refers to sole ownership of a name. It is usually associated with BURGUNDY where it's used to indicate that a classified vineyard is wholly owned by a single proprietor. LE TÂCHE AC and ROMANÉE-CONTI AC owned by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti are two of the most famous.
