Lake County
Large California county located north of NAPA COUNTY and east of MENDOCINO COUNTY. The area is dominated by Clear Lake, California's largest lake (which takes up about half of the county's surface area). Lake County is part of the NORTH COAST AVA but has three AVAs of it own—CLEAR LAKE, GUENOC VALLEY, and Benmore Valley, an obscure VITICULTURAL AREA southwest of the town of Lakeport. CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CHARDONNAY, SAUVIGNON BLANC, and ZINFANDEL are the major grape varieties grown in Lake County.
