Leányka
[LAY-ahn-kyah]

White-wine grape planted in Hungary, Romania (where it's known as Feteasca, Fetiska, Feteaska, and Mädchentraube), and surrounding areas. The name translates into something on the order of "young girlish," presumably alluding to the wine's soft, delicate traits. Leanyka wines have AROMATIC, SPICY, and apricot characteristics reminiscent of a GEWÜRZTRAMINER-MUSCAT combination. Most are vinified medium-sweet to medium-DRY. Although viewed as a wine that could be AGED, Leányka's moderate ACIDITY generally limits that time to only 2 to 4 years.
