Loureiro
[loh-RAY-roo]

Portuguese white-grape variety popular in the VINHO VERDE DOC in northern PORTUGAL. This high yielding, fairly high-ACID grape has a distinctive aroma similar to bay leaves. It's usually blended with Trajadura and sometimes ALVARINHO. In the RÍAS BAIXAS DO in northwestern SPAIN, this grape is known as Loureira. In other areas of Portugal, it's called Branco, Marqués, and Redondo.
