Kerner
[KEHR-nuhr]

Developed in the late 1960s, this very successful German white HYBRID is a combination of a red variety, Trollinger (SCHIAVA), and a white grape, RIESLING. It's most heavily planted in Germany's RHEINHESSEN and PFALZ regions, although it's cultivated to some extent throughout the country. Kerner produces quality, Riesling-like wines with good ACIDITY, FLORAL characteristics, and AGING ability.
