Hastings River An Australian wine region located in the Northern Rivers Zone of NEW SOUTH WALES. It's situated about 240 miles north of Sydney around the town of Port Macquarie on the Pacific Ocean. Rainfall and humidity are generally abundant in this region, but better vintages occur during dry years. There are just over 400 acres planted in the region. CHARDONNAY is the most popular white variety; CHAMBOURCIN (a HYBRID) is the most popular red because of its resistance to mildew. Other varieties include SÉMILLON, SAUVIGNON BLANC, VERDELHO, PINOT NOIR, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, MERLOT, and Shiraz (SYRAH). Related Links: New South Wales, Chardonnay, Chambourcin, Sé, Syrah
