Hochheim
[HOHKH-hime]

Wine-producing town separated from the rest of Germany's RHEINGAU region by the city of Wiesbaden. Hockheim's vineyards actually are situated along the Main River rather than the Rhine River, as are most of the Rheingau's vineyards. Despite the geographic separation, wines from Hochheim have a distinct Rheingau character. The wines are full-bodied (see BODY), yet ELEGANT, with a hint of EARTHINESS. The better EINZELLAGEN include Domde chaney, Hölle, Kirchenstuck, Königin Victoriaberg, and Stein. Schloss Schönborn is one of the better Hochheim producers. See also HOCK.
