Guenoc Valley AVA

A LAKE COUNTY, California, VITICULTURAL AREA at the northern end of the NAPA VALLEY about 15 miles north of Calistoga. It's unique because it's essentially a single-winery APPELLATION. Guenoc Winery's owner, Orville Magoon, was the designer of the area, which received AVA status in 1981. The valley's growing season swings from warm days to cool nights, making it a Region III (see CLIMATE REGIONS OF CALIFORNIA). The main grape varieties are CABERNET SAUVIGNON and CHARDONNAY, with small amounts of SAUVIGNON BLANC.
