Entre-Deux-Mers
[ahn-truh duh MERR]

Meaning “between two seas,” the area of Entre-Deux-Mers sits between two rivers, the Dordogne and the Garonne, in the eastern portion of France’s BORDEAUX region. With approximately 7,400 acres, it’s the largest subdistrict within Bordeaux. Its undulating hills make it one of the most beautiful as well. The Entre-Deux-Mers AC applies only to white wines made from MUSCADELLE, SAUVIGNON BLANC, and SÉMILLON. These wines are now made in a CRISP, DRY fashion, a change from the rather bland, semisweet versions made in the past. Within the southern portion of Entre-Deux-Mers is the small Haut-Benauge AC, which produces white wines of somewhat higher quality. Red wines produced from the Entre-Deux-Mers region are sold as BORDEAUX AC or Bordeaux Supérieur AC.
