fighting varietal wine
A term invented in 1983 for inexpensive VARIETAL WINES typically sealed with a cork—a group of wines that are a step up from JUG WINES. Like jug wines, fighting varietal wines primarily use grapes from California’s CENTRAL VALLEY. Unlike jug wines, however, they are typically made from a single variety (such as CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CHARDONNAY, or ZINFANDEL) and are of perceptibly higher quality.
