Fixin AC
[fee-SAN]

Fixin is one of the most northerly villages in the CÔTE DE NUITS district of France’s BURGUNDY region. It’s not as well known as some of the neighboring villages in this famous area because it contains no GRAND CRU vineyards. However, Fixin produces some very good PREMIER CRU wines, the best of which come from the vineyards of Les Arvelets, Clos de la Perrière, Clos du Chapitre, Clos Napoléon, and Les Hervelets. Wines from these premier cru vineyards and those from the Fixin AC are generally ROBUST and full-bodied (see BODY) and require several years of AGING before they’re really enjoyable. Fixin AC wines are difficult to find because the total vineyard area isn’t that large (320 acres, including premier cru vineyards) and because they can also be bottled as CÔTES DE NUITS-VILLAGES AC wines. A number of producers opt for the latter because they have other acreage entitled only to the Côtes de Nuits-Village AC and its easier to just combine the wines.
