FREISA
[FRAY-zah]
Italian red-wine grape that has been grown in the PIEDMONT region for centuries. After declining in popularity for several decades, Freisa is enjoying a resurgence of interest. It produces highly ACIDIC, pale cherry-red wines whose AROMA and flavor are reminiscent of raspberries. Freisa is VINIFIED in many styles ranging from DRY to sweet, and STILL to FRIZZANTE (lightly sparkling). Freisa has DOC status in Freisa di Chieri, Freisa d’Asti, and MONFERRATO. It’s also known as Fresa or Fresia.
