Fumé Blanc
[FOO-may BLAHN; BLAHNGK]
Term originally coined by the Robert Mondavi Winery and another name for sauvignon blanc. Many feel that Mondavi’s extensive marketing campaign for its dry, oak-aged style of Sauvignon Blanc is what established this variety as California’s second most popular white-wine grape after chardonnay.
