Baco Blanc
[BAH-koh BLAHN (BLAHNGK)]
White French- American HYBRID that is grown mainly in France’s ARMAGNAC district, where it replaced FOLLE BLANCHE, which had GRAFTING and BLACK ROT problems. Baco Blanc was developed by French hybridizer Maurice Baco who CROSSED the American hybrid Noah with Folle Blanche. Baco Blanc is very prolific and produces the high-ACIDITY, low-ALCOHOL wines much sought after by Armagnac’s BRANDY makers. It’s also known as Baco 22A and Piquepoul de Pays.
