Béarn AC
[bay-ARN]
This APPELLATION, which lies in Basque country in the Pyrenees in SOUTHWEST FRANCE, covers red, white, and ROSÉ wines. Red and rosé wines are made from various grapes including CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CABERNET FRANC, Tannat, and Manseng Noir. White wines are produced from Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, and Courbu. Within the Béarn area are the appellations of IROULEGUY, JURANÇON, and MADIRAN. Generally these are pretty basic wines; the best are the rosés and the sweet white wines from Jurançon.
