Beiras
[BAY-resh]

Portuguese VINHO REGIONAL located in the north central part of the country. It encompasses the DOCs of both BAIRRADA and DÃO. However, in general, wines labeled “Beiras” do not meet the standards established for these two classified areas. Some Beiras wines now include popular grapes neither native to this area nor allowed in the DOCs, such as CABERNET SAUVIGNON and CHARDONNAY. The inland areas of Beiras contain a number of IPRs that are showing promise for their red wines.
