Blackwood Valley
A new Australian wine region located in the South West Australia Zone of WESTERN AUSTRALIA. It’s situated about 160 miles south and slightly east of Perth around the towns of Bridgetown, Nannup, and Balingup. Blackwood Valley is east and inland of the famous MARGARET RIVER region, which gives it hotter summers and cooler winters. There was very little VITICULTURAL activity in this area until the 1990s. It’s still relatively undeveloped, with only about 1,000 acres planted. CHARDONNAY, RIESLING, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, and Shiraz (SYRAH) are the most widely planted varieties, along with smaller amounts PINOT NOIR, MERLOT, SAUVIGNON BLANC, and SÉMILLON.
