Bourgogne Aligoté AC; Bourgogne Aligoté de Bouzeron AC
[boor-GON-yuh ah-lee-goh-TAY]

These APPELLATIONS are specifically for the ALIGOTÉ variety, a white-wine grape cultivated in some parts of BURGUNDY. Compared to CHARDONNAY, Aligoté is not as important or distinguished, and, in most cases, the wines it produces aren’t as rich or long-lived. Some Aligoté wines can be sharp and sour, but older Aligoté vines have been known to produce some very pleasant wines that exhibit citrusy and, occasionally, nutty characteristics. Burgundian wines made from this grape are labeled Bougogne Aligoté AC or, when they come from the village of Bouzeron in the northern CÔTE CHALONNAISE, Bourgogne Aligoté de Bouzeron AC.
