Bourgueil AC
[boor-GEUH-yuh]

One of the few APPELLATIONS in the LOIRE Valley focused on red wines. . Located in the TOURAINE region, the area around the village of Bourgueil—like that of its neighbors CHINON and SAINT-NICOLAS-DE-BOURGUEIL—is dry enough to grow CABERNET FRANC and limited quantities of CABERNET SAUVIGNON. The wines from this AC are normally light and fruity. They’re certainly no match for better BORDEAUX reds, but hot years can produce good, full-bodied (see BODY) wines with AGING capabilities of 10 to 15 years.
