Brachetto; Brachetto d'Acqui DOCG
[brah-KAY-toh dah-KWEE]
Brachetto is a red-grape variety grown mainly in Italy’s PIEDMONT region. It’s light red in color with an aroma like MUSCAT and a strawberry trait. Brachetto is used to produce a variety of styles from STILL, DRY wines to the more common SWEET, SPARKLING ones. Brachetto d’Acqui is a DOCG located in the southeastern portion of the Piedmont region in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria near the town of Aqui Terme southeast of Asti. This zone’s version of Brachetto is primarily FRIZZANTE, although there are also STILL versions, which, in most cases, are slightly sweet.
