Bullas
[BOOL-lyahss]

A Spanish DO of just over 6,000 acres, located in the Levante region in eastern Spain around the town of Bullas. It’s in the province of Murcia, running south from the JUMILLA DO to the Mediterranean Sea. As with Jumilla, the main grape variety in this area is Monastrell (MOUVEDRE), which has been used primarily for producing ROSÉ wines or as a red BLENDING WINE. Today, however, some producers are using it to make more elegant red wines closer in style to the French Mouvedre wines. There are small amounts of Garnacha (GRENACHE) and Cencibel (TEMPRANILLO) grown in this DO. The primary white varieties are MACABEO and AIRÉN.
