Weissherbst
[VICE-hehrbst]

German for “white autumn” or “white harvest.” It originally referred to red grapes that had lost their color because of Edelfaüle (BOTRYTIS CINEREA). Today Weissherbst refers to ROSÉ wines produced from a single grape variety and of at least QUALITÄTSWEIN quality. The best-known wines of this type are made from Spätburgunder (PINOT NOIR) in Germany’s BADEN and WÜRTTEMBERG regions.
