Wiltingen
[VIHL-ting-uhn]

A famous wine-producing village located on the SAAR River in Germany’s MOSEL-SAAR-RUWER region. Wiltingen is surrounded by numerous vineyards, including the 67-acre SCHARZHOFBERG vineyard, which produces the village’s best wines. Scharzhofberg is classified as an ORTSTEIL, and its wines, therefore, don’t use Wiltingen in the name but are simply labeled Scharzhofberg. Wiltingen gives its name to the GROSSLAGE covering the area, Wiltingener Scharzberg, which can cause some confusion with the Scharzhofberg name. Other good vineyards include Braune Kupp, Braunfels, Hölle, Kupp, and Rosenberg. Area vineyards are planted with a high proportion of RIESLING.
