Cahors AC
[kah-OR]
Located in SOUTHWEST FRANCE, this APPELLATION produces red wines, mainly from MALBEC (locally called Auxerrois) BLENDED with small amounts of MERLOT and Tannat. Cahors has a reputation for its “black wines,” which are made with grapes from the high limestone plateau vineyards and are so named because they’re very dark, TANNIC, and LONG-LIVED. Newer vineyards on the lower slopes produce much lighter-style red wines.
