Winkel
[VINGK-uhl]

A prominent wine-producing village located near the Rhine River in Germany’s RHEINGAU region. It’s situated in an area of premium vineyards, along with other villages like GEISENHEIM, W Mittelheim, OESTRICH, and HATTENHEIM. Winkel’s most famous vineyard is the 125-acre Schloss Vollrads, which is situated in the hills above the village. Schloss Vollrads is classified as an ORTSTEIL and, therefore, simply uses its name on wine labels. Other quality vineyard sites (EINZELLAGEN) are Hasensprung and Jessuitengarten.
