cask number; cask #

A cask number is often used to denote a very special wine, such as Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars “Cask 23,” which is a RESERVE-style CABERNET SAUVIGNON. In the true sense, a cask number is supposed to indicate that a wine spent its entire aging period in one cask and that the wine was produced in limited quantities. However, there’s no legal requirement as to how this term is used, and it’s too often employed simply as a marketing ploy.
