Verdicchio di Matelica DOC
[vehr-DEEK-kyoh dee mahTAY-lee-kah]
Another DOC that produces wines based on the VERDICCHIO grape. It's located south of the better-known VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DI JESI DOC in central Italy's MARCHES region. The wines of these two DOCs are similar, although some believe that the Matelica wines are more full-bodied (see BODY). In addition to Verdicchio, the wines can also contain up to 15 percent of MALVASIA and TREBBIANO grapes.
