Vesuvio DOC

DOC zone located east of Naples in Italy’s CAMPANIA region. Actually, there are two DOCs in the area— the Vesuvio DOC and the Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio DOC (LCV), which means “tears of Christ.” Both make BIANCO, ROSSO, and ROSATO and use the same grapes. The difference is that the Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio DOC requires a minimum ALCOHOL level to be 1 to 11⁄2 percent higher. The varieties used for the red and ROSÉ wines are Piedirosso, Sciascinoso, and AGLIANICO. The white wines are made from Verdeca, Coda di Volpe, Falanghina, and GRECO. There is also an LCV LIQUOROSO, a white FORTIFIED WINE made from the same white grapes. Lacryma is sometimes spelled Lacrima or Lachryma.
