Villard Blanc
[vee-yahr BLAHN; BLAHNGK]

A white French-American HYBRID once widely grown in the south of France, particularly in the LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON region. It was developed by French hybridizers Seyve and Villard, who also created SEYVAL BLANCVillard Blanc, also known as Seyve Villard 12.375, is grown in the eastern United States as well. It’s highly productive and produces medium-quality wine with a flavor so pronounced that it’s usually blended with other grape varieties to produce a more neutral wine. Villard Blanc acreage has declined over the last few decades because French authorities are encouraging its replacement with higher-quality white grape varieties.
