Vin de Qualité Produits dans des Régions Déterminées (VQPRD)
[van deu kah-lee-TAY proh-DWEE dahn day ray-ZHAWNS day-tehr-mee-NEES]

A French expression that literally means "Quality Wine Produced in Determined Regions," and that is commonly shortened to simply "quality wine." Though "VQPRD" may be found on the label of some top-quality wines from countries in the EUROPEAN UNION, each member country has their own program to encourage the production of quality wines. For example, in France the APPELLATION D'ORIGINE CONTRÔLÉE and VIN DÉLIMITÉ DE QUALITE SUPÉRIEUR are such programs, as are Italy's DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA and DENOMINAZIONE DI ORIGINE CONTROLLATA E GARANTITA, Spain's DENOMINACIÓN DE ORIGEN, and Germany's QUALITÄTSWEIN and QUALITÄTSWEIN MIT PRÄDIKAT.
