[VEE-nyoo der MAY-zer]

The lowest quality-level designation for Portuguese wine, indicating a simple table wine. It's similar to the French category of VIN DE TABLE. VINHO REGIONAL (VR) is the next quality level up followed by the INDICAÇÃO DE PROVENIENCIA REGULAMENTADA (IPR). The highest Portuguese quality category is DENOMINAÇÃO DE ORIGEM CONTROLADA (DOC). Currently vinho de mesa wines are not allowed to have VINTAGE dates.
