Vosne-Romanée AC [vohn raw-ma-NAY] The village of Vosne-Romanée is located in the CÔTE DE NUIT area of BURGUNDY. The top red wines from this village are considered to be the finest in BURGUNDY— possibly in all of France—with wines from the PAUILLAC AC in BORDEAUX the most often mentioned contenders. Vosne-Romanée contains six prestigious GRAND CRU vineyards, which produce some of the world’s highest-priced wines: RICHEBOURG, LA ROMANÉE, ROMANÉE-CONTI, ROMANÉESAINT-VIVANT, LA TÂCHE, and, recently promoted from PREMIER CRU status, LA GRAND RUE. The grands crus ÉCHEZEAUX and GRANDS-ÉCHEZEAUX, which are located in the neighboring village of Flagey-Échezeaux, are also often associated with Vosne-Romanée. This is because the Flagey-Échezeaux village wines can be sold with the Vosne-Romanée appellation. In addition to the grands crus, there are seventeen Premier Cru vineyards that have a reputation for producing generally high-quality wine. Of these, Les Beaux Monts, Clos des Réas, Les Gaudichots, Aux Malconsorts, and Les Suchots are considered some of the best. High-quality wines from Vosne-Romanée demonstrate richness and elegance, along with a spiciness that’s difficult to find in other red Burgundies. Many critics believe that the quality of standard Vosne-Romanée AC wines is variable and inconsistent, which is disappointing because they’re expensive. More often than not, these wines coast on the reputation of the grands crus and premiers crus of this village. Related Links: Cô, Burgundy, Richebourg AC
