University of California, Davis The small town of Davis is located in northern California just west of Sacramento. It's home to the UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, DAVIS, and its well-known Viticulture and Enology Department. In addition to training a mulitude of today's top winemakers, this department is a leader in many areas of research and development including grape varieties and their CLONES, ROOTSTOCKS, vineyard diseases (see DISEASES, VINEYARD), and winemaking techniques.
