Tavel AC
[ta-VEHL]

An AC located just southwest of CHÂTEAUNEUFDU-PAPE in the southern part of France's RHÔNE region. It makes only ROSÉ wines, which some believe are France's best. Tavel wines, which are generally DRY and more full-bodied (see BODY) than most rosés, have an international reputation and are probably the best-known rosés from France. They're made primarily from GRENACHE (although this variety can't comprise more than 60 percent of the total) and CINSAUT, even though seven other grapes are allowed.
