Temecula AVA
[teh-MEH-kyoo-luh]

An AVA located in southern California's Riverside County between the cities of Riverside and San Diego. The area encompasses about 30,000 acres, 3,000 of which are planted. At this writing, Temecula has lost several hundred acres of vineyards to the ravages of PIERCE'S DISEASE, which is spread by the GLASSY-WINGED SHARPSHOOTER. The main grape varieties here are CHARDONNAY, SAUVIGNON BLANC, MERLOT, VIOGNIER, SYRAH, and PINOT GRIS. There are about fifteen wineries in the area.
