Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC [treh-BYAH-noh dah-BROODzoh] DOC located in Italy’s ABRUZZI region and covering a number of vineyard areas throughout the region. It’s one of the two DOCs to use the name of the TREBBIANO grape (the other is Trebbiano di Romagna in Italy’s EMILIA-ROMAGNA region). The odd thing is that this DOC adopted this name because the main grape variety used is the Trebbiano Abruzzo, which actually appears not to be Trebbiano, but an entirely different variety—BOMBINO BIANCO. The wines of this DOC can use Trebbiano Toscano (see TREBBIANO) grapes instead, but the better wines generally come from Bombino Bianco grapes. Up to 15 percent of other white grapes can be used as well. Generally the quality of the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC wines is not very high, but a few producers keep YIELDS down and produce some very good wines. Related Links: Abruzzi, Trebbiano
