The French phrase for "third growth," referring to the third-highest subcategory of the MÉDOC area's CRUS CLASSÉS (classed growths), which were established in the Classification of 1855 (see Official Wine Classifications of Bordeaux, page 636). Fourteen CHÂTEAUX were ranked as troisièmes crus in 1855, and this hasn't changed.
