Tumbarumba
[tum-brr-UHM-bah]

A remote Australian wine region located in the Southern New South Wales Zone of NEW SOUTH WALES. It’s situated around the former gold mining town of Tombarumba in the western foothills of the Snowy Mountains, about 300 miles southwest of Sydney. Growth has increased here in recent years as this cool weather area gained a reputation for good sparkling wines made from CHARDONNAY, PINOT NOIR, and Pinot Meunier (MEUNIER), and for STILL WINES from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and SAUVIGNON BLANC. Small amounts of CABERNET SAUVIGNON, MERLOT, and Shiraz (SYRAH) are also grown in the region. Southcorp and BRL Hardy both buy grapes and make wines from this area.
