Saint-Chinian AC
[san shee-NYAHN]

The village of Saint-Chinian is located in the hills above Beziers, southwest of FAUGÈRES AC in France's LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON region. Like the Faugères AC, the Saint-Chinian AC makes red wines of a much higher quality than most of the rest of this huge region. The grapes used are CARIGNAN, CINSAUT, GRENACHE, and, recently, increasing amounts of MOURVÈDRE and SYRAH. The wines, which are full-bodied (see BODY) and SPICY, are generally slightly lighter than those from the Faugères AC.
