Saint-Georges-Saint-Émilion AC AC
[san ZHORRZH ay-mee-LYAWN]
One of the SAINT-ÉMILION AC satellite APPELLATIONS that's allowed to append the name Saint-Émilion to its own. Some feel that the wines from this AC are the best of those from the appellations surrounding Saint-Émilion. Like Saint-Émilion itself, the dominant grape here is MERLOT. Since 1972, wines from this appellation have been allowed to be labeled with the MONTAGNE-SAINT ÉMILION AC—the larger, neighboring appellation. Some producers still prefer to use the Saint-GeorgesSaint-Émilion AC, however.
