Colli Bolognesi DOC
[KAWL-lee baw-law-NYAY-zee]

DOC located in the Appennine foothills southwest of Bologna in Italy’s EMILIAROMAGNA region. It produces VARIETAL WINES made from BARBERA, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, MERLOT, Pignoletto, Pinot Bianco (PINOT BLANC), Riesling Italico (WELSCHRIESLING), and SAUVIGNON BLANC. Each of these varietals can have up to 15 percent of other approved grapes blended with them. There is also a BIANCO wine that’s a blend of ALBANA and TREBBIANO grapes. The Bianco and Pignoletto wines are made in both AMABILE and DRY versions. The red Barbera and the white Sauvignon Blanc wines are more highly regarded than others. The Colli Bolognesi DOC has seven subzones, the names of which may be added to certain of the varietal wines: Colline di Riosto, Colline Marconiane, Zola Predosa, Monte San Pietro, Colline di Oliverto, Terre di Monebudello, and Serravalle
