Also known as Collio Goriziano, Collio is an important DOC located in the FRIULI-VENEZIA GIULIA region in northeast Italy. It spreads out north and west of the city of Goriziano and borders Slovenia on the eastern edge. The area, which has a reputation for high-quality white wines, produces Collio Bianco, which is made from Ribolla Gialla (RIBOLLA), MALVASIA, and TOCAI grapes, as well as VARIETAL WINES from CABERNET FRANC, CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CHARDONNAY, MALVASIA, MÜLLER THURGAU, MERLOT, PICOLIT, Pinot Bianco (PINOT BLANC), Pinot Grigio (PINOT GRIS), Pinot Nero (PINOT NOIR), RIBOLLA, Riesling Italico (WELSCHRIESLING), Sauvignon (SAUVIGNON BLANC), TOCAI FRIULANO, and Traminer (GEWÜRZTRAMINER). The wines from Collio are generally considered the best of the Friuli area.
