Santenay AC
[sahn-tuh-NEH]

The last major village in the southern part of the famous CÔTE D’OR in BURGUNDY. It’s just north of the next major Burgundian subregion, the CÔTE CHALONNAIS. Because the Sante-nay AC is not nearly as well known as most of the neighboring village APPELLATIONS to the north (CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET, PULIGNY-MONTRACHET, and MEURSAULT), the prices of the wines are usually are lower. Almost all the wines produced are red, made from PINOT NOIR. The red wines are similar in style to those from CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET but usually are not quite as good. Miniscule amounts of white wines are produced from CHARDONNAY. There are no GRAND CRU vineyards, but there are several fine PREMIER CRU vineyards including Clos de Tavannes, La S Comme, Les Gravières, and Le Passe Temps.
