schloss
[SHLAWSS]

German for "castle." When the name of a schloss is used on a wine label, the meaning is similar to ESTATE GROWN, meaning the wine must be made from grapes grown in its own vineyards. The word schloss can also appear as part of the name of a BERE-ICH—as in Bereich Schloss Bockelheim—or of a GROSSLAGE—as in Grosslage Schloss Rodeck.
