Côtes d'Auvergne VDQS
[koht doh-VERN-yuh]

This VDQS area, which produces red and ROSÉ wines, is located in central France around the village of Clermont-Ferrand in the upper LOIRE (east of the northern RHÔNE region). The wines, which are very BEAUJOLAIS-like, are based on the GAMAY grape blended with a small amount of PINOT NOIR. There are over fifty small villages making these wines, but only the better ones can add their name to the label. They include Boudes, Châteaugay, Chanturgue, Corent, and Médargues.
