APPELLATION in SOUTHWEST FRANCE around the town of Marmande, which is on the Garonne River just east of BORDEAUX. Nearby are the ACs of CÔTES DE DURAS, BUZET, and ENTRE-DEUX-MERS. The red wines are made from the Bordeaux favorites (CABERNET SAUVIGNON, CABERNET FRANC, MERLOT) as well as from the local varieties of Abouriou and FER, and occasionally SYRAH. The DRY white wines primarily employ the Bordeaux varieties of MUSCADELLE, SAUVIGNON BLANC, and SÉMILLON. Generally, the wines from Côtes du Marmandais are meant for early consumption.
